In early 2013, Fanshawe College launched 5 full-time compressed weekend programs, both certificate and graduate certificate, in Personal Support Worker, Autism & Behavioural Science, Marketing Management, International Business Management, Construction Carpentry Techniques. (Fanshawe is reportedly working at adding other programs.)
Weekend College will allow students to accelerate their traditional programs, or take advantage of greater flexibility during the week, whether they are full-time or part-time students. The program is particularly aimed at mature, highly-motivated students who have work or family commitments during traditional hours. (More than 48% of new Fanshawe students are over age 20.)
Programs are offered in fall, winter or summer terms. Some classes are provided in traditional face-to-face format, while others blend weekend classes with online learning. Weekend College students get access to the full range of academic and support services, libraries and computer labs, and are eligible for scholarships and financial aid.
“Fanshawe has seen an increase in the number of mature students and Weekend College offers another option for those who wish to develop additional skills. This new initiative is exciting for all of us as we continue to seek ways to respond to the needs of adult learners who want to study on a full-time basis but are unable to attend classes during the week.” - Vertha Coligan, Dean of the Faculty of Technology
