In winter 2011, the University of Alberta Wellness Services and Campus Recreation departments launched a student mental health initiative they dubbed “Unwind Your Mind.” At peak stress seasons – winter and spring exam weeks in particular – the program brings mental health services into the campus library, where students are busy cramming for exams and could benefit most from them. Services include registered therapy dogs, health snack giveaways, free fitness classes, mental health resource stations, and workshops in Yoga, relaxation, and Zumba.
In 2013-14, uAlberta is hoping to extend the Unwind Your Mind program throughout the fall and winter terms.
