Brand Chemistry: 2007/8 College Rebrandings

Ken Steele begins his review of logo redesigns at Canadian colleges with those completed in 2007 and 2008. Ken was directly involved in the rebranding of Lethbridge Community College, in southern Alberta, back in 2007, and he explains the connotations intended in the new logo. (He takes no responsibility for the “totally new’d” Towel Guy, though). NAIT, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, revamped a 1970s-style logo to replace it with a new shield-like logo featuring NAIT’s “technology globe”. Red Deer College abandoned an overly clever and representational logo to replace it with a streamlined acronym, “RDC”, with a neon green arc.
