Strategic Planning

Ken Steele in a panel discussion at the 2014 EdTech SummitOn college and university campuses across North America, faculty and staff all-too-frequently look upon strategic planning exercises with a mixture of contempt and dread, as empty exercises the result in nothing but platitudes, or as restructuring cuts in disguise.  But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Ken Steele has worked with colleges and universities across Canada in a variety of capacities to nurture the atmosphere of collaboration and energy required for a truly effective strategic planning process.  In a great many cases, he has assisted with the interpretation of enrolment data and market research to assist with SEM planning and business planning.  He is often invited to deliver “state of the sector” presentations on emerging trends and new opportunities, to senior leadership and governing boards but also to broader campus audiences, to sow seeds of bright ideas and encourage innovative thinking during a strategic planning process.  And increasingly he is writing environmental scan documents to provide helpful context for institutional, marketing, branding and academic plans.

Services:

Ken has a truly remarkable command of current developments in the world of postsecondary education, both in Canada and beyond. His presentations are engaging, stimulating, and provocative — and delivered in a manner guaranteed to make audiences think about the future direction of PSE and the ways in which their own institutions might make the most of them. I recommend him highly.

“Ken worked with Lambton College to develop a strategic plan over a seven-month period, and artfully guided the Board of Governors through the development of the final product. The result was a strategic plan that had been completed in a constructive, thorough and enjoyable manner and that represented well our key directions.”

Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College

“When organizing our Board of Governors’ Planning Session, I couldn’t think of a better speaker than Ken Steele to discuss the broader education landscape. Ken has a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends, opportunities and challenges facing higher education.”

Steven E. Franklin, President & Vice-Chancellor, Trent University

“Ken Steele led off a week of strategic planning at Collingwood School by presenting multiple times to Faculty, Board members and parents. He talked with real authority about the emerging trends in education and did it in such a compelling and engaging way. He had us all thinking. It was particularly impressive that he gave essentially the same presentation three times but tailored it strategically to each different audience – brilliant!”

Rodger Wright, Head of School, Collingwood School
